Dr. Sonya Jordan Sanzo
Lamar CISD Training Team Co-Coordinator for Safe to Learn Project
2016-2017
For twenty two years, my career in education has afforded me a lifetime of “gifts” as I have had countless opportunities to share in and be a part of student and staff growth celebrations. I am currently a junior high school assistant principal and an elementary summer school principal in Lamar CISD, as well as a doctoral student in an educational leadership program at the University of Houston.
For the first seven years of my career, I was a high school teacher and coach in Cy-Fair Independent School District and taught in a variety of classroom settings from behavioral units in special education, to advanced placement classes in history and psychology. I attended Texas State University for my undergraduate degree in education and psychology, and received a master’s degree in counseling from Sam Houston State University.
I have been a part of the Lamar CISD family for fifteen years as both a counselor and school administrator. I have served as a district crisis team leader and have always been a member of campus crisis teams. I am a native Texan and feel blessed that I was raised by parents who taught me to appreciate and love family, outdoor adventures, and helping others. I have a son, Tyler, who is a petroleum engineering student at Texas Tech University and Eagle Scout. I know how important it is to prepare our own children for unforeseen possibilities, both negative and positive in nature. I am a firm believer that as a school leader, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of every person on my campus. I am a proponent of a shared leadership crisis prevention system where team members are empowered and trained to address crisis situations. I am a firm believer that as a school leader, I must be on the forefront of possible crisis situations and have systems and procedures in place that serve to protect the lives of students and staff members entrusted in our care.
