A Long Walk to Water
By Linda Sue Park

Linda Sue Park weaves an inspiring story of two children in Sudan -- one an 11-year-old Lost Boy, Salva, who fled in 1985 and later immigrated to the United States, and 11-year-old Nya, who collects water for her village in 2008. Salva was separated from his family and ultimately leads a group of about 150 boys to safety in Kenya. He is relocated to upstate New York and resourcefully learns English and continues on to college. He never gives up his dream to return to Africa.
Parks insight into both journeys and captures the determination of Salva to make a difference, while inspiring others to do so. When Salva eventually returns to his home region in southern Sudan, he establishes a foundation that installs deep-water wells in remote villages in dire need of clean water. Nya's life is changed forever because of Salva's actions bring water to her village.
