About Teacher Nancy Hanauer, Founder of Hop to Signaroo ®
Nancy Hanauer was a special education teacher for several years before leaving classroom teaching in 2000 and founding her award-winning baby sign language business, Hop to Signaroo ®. Through her original curriculum and materials she’s taught thousands of hearing families how to communicate with their hearing babies to aid early communication and reduce frustration before speech is possible. With the popularity of her classes and lectures, and at the request of her clients who wanted to learn more, Nancy has expanded her program offerings to show educators, children’s librarians and parents the benefits of continuing or introducing American Sign Language in the preschool and elementary years to enhance reading and language skills and brain development. Additionally, in 2009 Nancy served as part of a research team at The University of Washington looking at the quality of life of deaf and hard of hearing children and youth. With 20+ years of teaching and signing experience, her passion for teaching and American Sign Language has taken her career in many unique directions, often bridging the gap between the deaf and hearing communities.
