Children Have to Feel Safe to Learn

"We welcome you to the Safe to Learn Community Project. It is important to thank the Safe to Learn Advisory Council and also to express gratitude to all the amazing administrators, principals and assistant principals from Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in Texas who participated in the Pilot Project. They have each provided input, shared ideas and insights about leadership, education and safety. Together we discussed school safety, they asked questions and I listened. The assistant director of risk management had faith in my vision and helped guide my path of research and discovery. After each principal and assistant principal read Principles for Principals, Leading the Way to School Safety by Ada Rosario Dolch, we talked and they took the time to share their thoughts and asked questions about balancing leadership, safety and academics. I realized then it was time to change my course and find a path where my efforts could make a difference by bringing together administrators, educators, teachers, subject matter experts, trusted advisers, critical thinkers and first responders who are willing to make a difference, share their talents and take action to balance leadership, safety and academics. I invite you to help us make a world for our children where it is indeed, safe to learn."
